The Global Center works to achieve lasting security by advancing inclusive, human rights–based policies, partnerships, and practices to address the root causes of violent extremism. The Global Center focus on four mutually reinforcing objectives:

• Supporting communities in addressing the drivers of conflict and violent extremism.
• Advancing human rights and the rule of law to prevent and respond to violent extremism.
• Combating illicit finance that enables criminal and violent extremist organizations.
• Promoting multilateral cooperation and rights-based standards in counterterrorism.

The Global Center has a global team and network of experts, trainers, fellows, and policy professionals who work to conduct research and deliver programming in these areas across sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, and South, Central, and Southeast Asia.

Partner: Alternatives to Violence Project AVP

The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is a training programme enabling participants to deal with potentially violent situations in new and creative ways. Workshops are non-residential, run by our trained facilitators and experiential (not based on lectures).

Our workshops use the shared experience of participants, interactive exercises, games and role-plays to examine the ways in which we respond to situations where injustice, prejudice, frustration and anger can lead to aggressive behaviour and violence.

An AVP workshop can help you to:

• manage strong feelings such as anger and fear
• deal more effectively with risk and danger
• build good relationships with other people
• communicate well in difficult situations
• recognise the skills you already have and learn new ones
• be true to yourself while respecting other people
• understand why conflict happens

 

Carefronting Nigeria coordinates AVP activities in Northern Nigeria and facilitates AVP workshops. Carefronting is also a member organization of AVP Nigeria and AVP International.

Fathers Incorporated (FI), a not-for-profit organization, serves as a leader in the promotion of Responsible Fatherhood and Mentoring. This International, National, and local focus will raise the awareness about, and combat the impact of father absence. We will do this through the use of innovative social marketing and multi-media platforms, traditional communications, and product development. We seek to expand the range of work in the fields of comprehensive and non-traditional family service models. Fathers Incorporated will work to change the current societal and cultural definition of family to include fathers.

Hope is a US based organisation with operational offices in the UK and Kaduna-Nigeria. It is a welfare and service support organisation that takes care and protects the interest of the elderly. We partner with them in training of volunteers that work with them in homes.

The Damietta Peace Initiative is a Franciscan, inter-faith driven peace enterprise for the Continent of Africa, built around the core values of nonviolence, reconciliation and respect for creation. It is a pro-active response to a hunger that is widely felt among people today, that the sectarian divisions in our society must yield to the big shared human questions, namely, that we humans are locked inside another story. The evolving universe story. And part of this evolutionary story is that humans must learn to live as friendly beings towards each other and towards nature. It is imperative to look at the big picture and see where non-violence fits into the scheme of things.

Our  work at the African Fathers Initiative proceeds from an explicit commitment to gender equity and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). It supports the importance of mothering or mothers’ rights to children, and it highlights the importance of parents working co-operatively for the interests of children.

The bridge builders Association of Nigeria is an InterFaith peace Building organization based in Kaduna and working predominantly in the North. Carefronting Nigeria partners with Bridge Builders on peace building activities. Carefronting are consultant facilitators for BBA.

AfriGrowth Foundation is an organisation committed to enhancing growth in needy communities in the West African Sub region by initiating empowerment programmes which develop techniques for self-sufficiency. Founded on the belief that one of the greatest challenges we face in the world today is poverty, AfriGrowth focus on eliminating poverty through their programs in education, health, nutrition and tourism.

The AfriGrowth strategy therefore utilizes a wholistic multidimensional approach that merges private sector efficiencies with public-spirited work of civil society groups for a robust model for social  and economic growth.

We partner with AfriGrowth on their Leadership and Mentoring training programmes, we facilitate sessions.
